Although this may look as if a vast cubist building is encroaching into the stair hall, the wall is completely flat- this is in fact a large- scale mural. This illusory, painted grid also sparks another association: with its typical colors, the picture evokes memories of the facade of the Palace of the Republic - a building still very present in many people ´s minds. The Humboldt Forums ´s direct predecessor appears here in subtle painterly form. The Palace stood on this site from 1976 until it was closed in 1990, before being demolished between 2006 and 2008.
